Relativity picks up comedy spec from 'Hangover' team

Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity Media is counting on “21 and Over,” buying the comedy spec script from “The Hangover” writers Jon Lucas and Scott Moore.

Story centers on two college seniors who get their best friend drunk on his 21st birthday and then must race to get him to his medical school exam the next morning.

The spec purchase comes as Relativity evolves from a financing and production company into a mini-major with plans to release as many titles a year by 2012.

It absorbed Overture Films’ distribution capabilities last month and announced last week that it will distribute “The Dark Fields” and “Kids in America” instead of Universal.

Credits for the writing team of Lucas and Moore include “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past,” indie bank heist comedy “Flypaper” and U’s body-switching comedy “The Change-Up,” starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman.
