UCLA fest to honor Corman, Daniels

Filmmakers will be feted at closing night gala

The UCLA Festival of New Creative Works will honor filmmakers Roger Corman and Lee Daniels at its Directors Spotlight closing-night gala June 10.

Roger Corman, who has produced more than 500 films and directed 50 others during his career, will be given the Champion Spirit Award for his contributions to the industry.

Lee Daniels will be presented with the Filmmaker of the Year Award for his Oscar-nominated film “Precious.”

The award honors filmmakers with a distinct voice that impacts the way people look at the human condition.

The Directors Spotlight event will also honor student filmmakers in UCLA’s School of Theater, Film and Television. Student honorees include Neil Forbes, Dawn Garcia, Cory Miller, Michael Bodie, David Martin-Porras, Mary Lai, Doug Archibald and Erick Oh.

The gala will take place at 7:30 p.m. June 10 the Directors Guild of America theater.
