Bollywood blockbusters seem to be finding fertile ground in Apulia, where a clutch of promising Italo feature films and high-profile local telepics are also being shot, along with an English-lingo slasher, attesting to the region’s chameleon-like range.

Selected titles either recently shot or soon-to-shoot in the region:

“Jackie”
Proving there is a real Apulia-India connection, Bollywood pic “Jackie” shot one of its songs in the region in July. Soori-helmed pic stars Hindi box office sensation Puneet Rajkumar and is produced by Bangalore’s Poornima Enterprises. “Jackie” follows Hindi hit “House Full,” which also shot in the region.

“Ma Che Bella Giornata”
In July, hot Italo comic Ceccho Zalone, a native Apulian, shot his followup to smash hit “Cado Dalle Nubi,” “Ma Che Bella Giornata,” in the region. Helmed by Gennaro Nunziante and produced by TaoDue and Medusa, pic is skedded for an Italian release in January via Medusa.

“Essenzialmente tu”
Asia Argento starrer “Essenzialmente tu,” a comedy helmed by Stefano Chiantini and produced by Paco Cinematografica, will shoot soon in the outlying Tremiti Islands, north of the Gargano Promontory.

“Il giuramento di Ippocrate”
Domenico Procacci-produced “Il giuramento di Ippocrate,” about young doctors in a love triangle, shot in Bari and Salento in May. Pic is directed by Lucio Pellegrini and stars Stefano Accorsi, Pierfrancesco Favino and Vittoria Puccini.

“Midday Demons”
“Midday Demons” (Controra) a 3D, English-language slasher helmed by Rossella De Venuto and produced by Interlineais, is scheduled to start rolling in Apulia soon. It’s seeking co-prod partners.

“Il Commissario Zagaria
Helmer Antonello Grimaldi (“Calm Chaos”) will shoot a two-part police telepic “Il Commissario Zagaria” for Mediaset’s flagship Canale 5 station in Apulia, starring Apulia native and local TV celeb Lino Banfi.

“Rudy Valentino — Divo dei divi”
“Rudy Valentino — Divo dei divi,” a biopic of Rudy Valentino, who was born in Castellaneta near Taranto, is lensing in the region. Helmed by Nico Cerasola (“Focaccia Blues”), pic is produced by Mediterranea Film.

“Apartment in Athen”
Laura Morante starrer “Apartment in Athens,” based on the novel by Glenway Wescott, is being helmed by Italo first-timer Ruggero Dipaola and set in Nazi-occupied Greece. Pic, penned by produced by Heidrun Schleef e Luca De Benedittis, is produced by L’Occhio e La Luna shingle and shot in Apulia in August.
