Clive Owen will star opposite Jason Statham in action-thriller “The Killer Elite,” set to begin shooting next month in Australia with Irish director Gary McKendry helming.

Omnilab Media and Inferno Entertainment are financing. Michael Boughen of Omnilab’s Ambience Entertainment is producing in conjunction with Current Entertainment’s Steve Chasman and Joni Sighvatsson.

The Killer Elite,” based on Ranulph Fiennes’ novel “The Feather Men,” follows a group of former British special forces members being hunted by a team of assassins led by Statham’s character, a former Navy Seal.

Owen will take on the role of a senior field operative and member of a clandestine group protecting former special forces soldiers and their families.

Owen was recently cast in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s “Intruders” and can next be seen starring in “Trust.”

Shooting’s set to start in Melbourne on May 13 until continue until mid-July. Pic will shoot in Wales in late July. Statham’s deal closed last May at Cannes.

Omnilab Media’s Christopher Mapp, Matthew Street and David Whealy are exec producing and Inferno’s Jim Seibel and Bill Johnson are co-exec producing.
