Sundance sets Native American fellows

Program supports Indigenous film artists in U.S.

The Sundance Institute has selected four fellows and their projects for the 2010 Sundance Institute-Ford Foundation Fellowship. The fellowship, created by the institute’s Native-American and Indigenous Program, gives support to emerging Native-American and Indigenous film artists working in the U.S.

Fellows include Yolanda Cruz (Chatino)-“La Raya,” Ramona Emerson (Dine)-“Opal,” Randi LeClair (Pawnee Nation)-“The Other Side of the Bridge,” and Kaherawaks Thompson (Mohawk)- “Close to Death.”

The fellowship includes a five-day workshop on the ancestral lands of the Mescalero Apache Tribe in New Mexico where the fellows can develop their voice as writers and advance their current projects. They will also attend the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.
