Summit sets ‘Twilight’ release date

Final chapter to bow on Nov. 16, 2012

Summit Entertainment will open the fifth and final “Twilight” film Nov. 16, 2012 — nearly a full year after the fourth film — with the official title “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2.”

Shooting’s set to begin on “Breaking Dawn” this fall in Vancouver and Baton Rouge, La., with production taking place over the next year.

Studio announced in June that it had decided to split the final film in two, with the first set to open Nov. 18, 2011.

Bill Condon is directing “Breaking Dawn,” the final tome in author Stephenie Meyer’s four-book vampire series. The book centers on the mortal Bella and the vampire Edward being married, and Bella giving birth to a half-vampire, half-human daughter, Renesmee.

Catherine Hardwicke helmed the first pic, while Chris Weitz directed the second, “New Moon.” David Slade was behind the camera for the third, “Eclipse,” which opened June 30. The franchise has grossed more than $1.6 billion in worldwide box office.

Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt and Meyer are producing. Scribe Melissa Rosenberg has adapted each installment and is working on the fourth.

Lee Pace (“Pushing Daisies”) is in talks to play the role of Garrett, a nomadic vampire, in “Breaking Dawn.”
