SubZero raises Scandi heat in U.S.

Shorts fest boosts Scandinavian cinema

The SubZero Short Film Fest has emerged as a major booster of Scandinavian cinema in the U.S.

The not-for-profit U.S. org highlighted new Norwegian cinema at its first outing, held in April at Scandinavia House in New York. Event screened a series of shorts as well as Jens Lien’s feature “The Bothersome Man.”

Next year, the fest will focus on femme Scandi helmers and will be monikered “SubZero (Women Film Fest): Scandinavian Female Directors Break the Ice in New York.” It’s mission is to be “a platform for the work of the dynamic group of women who are gaining an increasingly important foothold in Scandinavian film, refocusing its vision and revamping its issues.” No titles have yet been announced.
