Sony Pictures Classics has picked up North American rights to director Susanne Bier’s drama “In a Better World.” Bier co-wrote with Anders Thomas Jensen.

Drama centers on two Danish families.

SPC pacted with Scandinavian sales company TrustNordisk for the rights to the movie, which have so far been sold in more than 30 countries.

No exact U.S. release date has been confirmed.

Pic is produced by Sisse Graum Jorgensen for Zentropa Entertainments with Memfis Film Intl., DR, SVT, Film i Vast and Trollhattan Film, with support from the Danish Film Institute, Film Fyn, Nordic Film and TV Fond, the Swedish Film Institute and the Media program of the EU.

Bier’s 2004 movie “Brothers” was adapted into the 2009 pic toplined by Tobey Maguire, Jake Gyllenhaal and Natalie Portman.
