Filmmaker Michael Moore and Sundance Film Festival director John Cooper will lead the fourth annual Art House Convergence summit.
Launched in 2008, it has become a yearly gathering of indie theater owners to compare notes, brainstorm and network. The event will be held in Midway, Utah, running just before the Sundance fest from January 17-20.
The gathering has doubled in size each year and one of the items on the 2011 agenda will be the creation of a national membership organization. In addition to 17 sessions on topics ranging from fundraising to new media marketing to changes in independent film distribution, there will also be opportunities for small group consultations. Also scheduled to be discussed is a new initiative to foster new community outreach partnerships for indie theaters.
“The annual Art House Convergence has evolved into a leading national resource for the support of independent film and the promotion of film culture in local communities,” said Russ Collins, executive director of the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor who serves as chair of the event.
