Five finalists have been selected for the 55th annual Samuel Goldwyn Writing Award, the kudo given for a feature screenplay penned by a student from a U. of California campus.
Several of the finalists hail from UCLA, including Ryan Finnerty (“Short Stories”), Meg Gifford (“Paint It Black”), Matt Wheeler (“How to Leave Your Lover”) and Owen Donovan Yarde (“Hit and Run”) .
Branden Cahn (“Burnt Bridges of Cartwright”) joins the list from UC Santa Barbara.
Finalists were chosen from a pool of more than 200 submissions. Winner will be selected by a team of judges including CAA’s Richard Green, Regency Entertainment’s Hutch Parker and the Hollywood Reporter’s Elizabeth Guider.
The kudo, overseen by the Samuel Goldwyn Foundation, includes cash prizes. Laurel will be handed out Nov. 1 at UCLA.
