Director Jon Favreau disclosed Wednesday that Harrison Ford is in talks to jump into the saddle for DreamWorks Studios’ tentpole “Cowboys and Aliens.”

Ford will play a cowboy in the pic, which toplines Daniel Craig. Favreau made the announcement on Twitter.

“Cowboys and Aliens,” based on the popular 2006 graphic novel, is being co-financed by DreamWorks and Universal.

Favreau is set to begin lensing this summer from a script by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof. Film will unspool in theaters July 29, 2011.

Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Ron Howard are producing with Steven Spielberg and Platinum Studios CEO Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. Orci and Kurtzman also are producers.

Storyline revolves around a group of Apache Indians and Western settlers who resolve to patch up their differences and join forces when an alien spaceship crash-lands in their city.
