Ruben Fleischer (“Zombieland”) has been tapped to develop Sony’s action-comedy “Babe in the Woods” as a directing vehicle.
Matt Tolmach and Doug Belgrad, presidents of Columbia Pictures, made the announcement Tuesday. The execs cited the success of “Zombieland,” which grossed $76 million domestically, as the impetus for working with Fleischer again.
Screenplay, penned by Mike White, centers on a female freshman from the Midwest who arrives at Yale and becomes a target of the New Jersey mob.
White will produce through his Rip Cord Productions banner. Rip Cord’s David Bernad will also produce.
Fleischer’s attached to direct the MRC film “30 Minutes or Less” with Ben Stiller’s Red Hour producing and Danny McBride, Aziz Ansari and Jesse Eisenberg attached to star. He also recently sold an untitled action comedy pitch to DreamWorks, which he’ll direct and produce with Nicholas Stoller and Gavin Polone.
