Duo ‘Double’ up on thriller

Gere, Grace sign on to espionage thriller

Richard Gere and Topher Grace have signed on to topline Hyde Park and Imagenation Abu Dhabi’s “The Double.”

Espionage thriller will mark the helming debut of Michael Brandt, who along with his writing partner Derek Haas penned such scripts as “Wanted” and “3:10 to Yuma.”

Story kicks off with the mysterious murder of a senator bearing the marks of a Soviet assassin, who was long thought to be dead. To hunt down the killer, a retired CIA operative (Gere), who spent his career going toe-to-toe with his Soviet nemesis, is teamed with a young FBI agent (Grace).

Lensing begins in June in Detroit.

Hyde Park’s Ashok Amritraj and Patrick Aiello are producing alongside Haas and Industry Entertainment’s Andrew Deane.

Imagenation’s Mohamed Khalaf Al-Mazrouei and Edward Borgerding are exec producing.

Hyde Park and Imagenation Abu Dhabi partnered in November 2008 on a $250 million financing deal to develop, produce and distribute up to 20 feature films over seven years.

Hyde Park Intl. is handling worldwide rights for “The Double.”

Gere’s recent credits include “Brooklyn’s Finest” and “Amelia.”

Grace next stars in 20th Century Fox’s “Predators.” He most recently co-starred in the ensemble pic “Valentine’s Day.”
