Multihyphenate Kristen Schaal is the latest thesp to board the Weinstein Co. comedy “Butter.”
Schaal, who is best known for playing band stalker Mel on HBO’s “Flight of the Conchords,” is embarking on a busy 2010, with new projects debuting nearly every month of the year. The actress/stand-up comedian/author, who has development deals at Paramount TV and 20th Century Fox, will voice roles in “Shrek 4” and “Toy Story 3” and appear in such pics as “Get Him to the Greek,” “Dinner for Schmucks” and “Going the Distance.” Her comedic tome “The Sexy Book of Sexy Sex,” which she co-wrote with Rich Blomquist, will be published by Chronicle in August.
In the Jim Field Smith-helmed “Butter,” Schaal will co-star opposite Jennifer Garner, Hugh Jackman and Alicia Silverstone.
Additionally, Yara Shahidi (“Imagine That”) has been cast in “Butter.” Shahidi plays an adopted girl in a midwest town who discovers a talent for butter carving and finds herself pitted against Garner in their town’s annual contest.
