Chicago rapper Twista will be the subject of a new documentary produced by the Vladar Co., slated for October release in conjunction with the musician’s new album.
EMI Label Group will handle physical and digital distribution.
Active as Tung Twista from the early ’90s, Twista (real name Carl Terrell Mitchell) is known for his high-speed rap style. He scored a No. 1 pop and R&B hit in 2003 with “Slow Jamz,” a collaboration with Kanye West and Jamie Foxx. His 2004 album “Kamikaze” reached No. 1, while 2005’s “The Day After” climbed to No. 2.
Doc was shot in the Windy City, New York, Los Angeles and Miami. Vladar principal Vlad Yudin said, “The objective of this film is to cover various social topics such as the city’s history of violence and also to explore Chicago’s influence in music and culture.”
In 2009, Vladar released “Big Pun: The Legacy,” an homage to the late rapper Christopher “Big Punisher” Rios. Pic was released by Vivendi Universal; Vladar co-produced the soundtrack with Sony Music’s Legacy Recordings.Yudin is producing (with Ed Mejia) and directing the feature “Last Day of Summer” for release via E1 Entertainment. Cast includes DJ Qualls (“Hustle & Flow”).
