New Line has tapped Nicholas D’Agosto (“Election”) for the lead role along with David Koechner (“Anchorman”) for “Final Destination 5,” to be directed by visual effects vet Steven Quale.
New Line has already given “Final Destination 5” an Aug. 26, 2011, release date. Production is set to start next month.
Quale was second unit director and visual effects supervisor on “Avatar” and second unit director on “Titanic.”
The 3D project will be produced by Craig Perry through his Practical Pictures shingle and Warren Zide.
Eric Heisserer (“A Nightmare on Elm Street”) is penning the script, which involves scenes on a suspension bridge and laser eye surgery.
Sheila Hanahan Taylor is exec producing.
Perry and Zide have been producers on all four “Destination” pics, which were released in 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2009. The franchise has a combined worldwide gross of over $500 million.
D’Agosto was most recently seen in “Fired Up.” Other credits include “Rocket Science” and the small-screen series “Heroes.”
Koechner was most recently seen in “The Perfect Game” and “Extract.”
