SYDNEY — The Sydney Film Festival has tapped Aussie producer Jan Chapman (“The Piano,” “Bright Star”) to be the fest’s jury prexy.
Chapman will be joined by the topper of Sundance fest John Cooper to judge the FIAPF-approved official competition that began in 2008; third outing will see her judge the Sydney Film Prize which, at A$60,000 ($55,000), is Down Under’s richest kudo.
Chapman called the young competition “a development in standing for the festival” and said the fest was what first inspired her to enter the industry.
Said Cooper: “Sundance has a long history of presenting Australian films from shorts, to docs to features and this year our world dramatic competition grand jury prize went to ‘Animal Kingdom.’ I’m hunting for new talent and I rely on Australia year after year.”
The 57th edition runs June 2-14.
