Carr, Rumpus onboard ‘Haunteds’

Graphic novel source skedded for publication next year

Steve Carr and his Rumpus Entertainment banner have decided to “Meet the Haunteds,” partnering with Platinum Studios on a feature version of Platinum’s graphic novel.

“Haunteds” tells the story of a family who move into a recently revitalized area of Harlem to find their new home is haunted by an African-American family that has been there since the 1970s and has no idea how much the world has changed. The graphic novel, created and written by Chris Wichtendahl with art by Billy Penn, is scheduled for publication next year.

Carr and his partner Jason Taragan will produce with Platinum Studios’ topper Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. Former Universal exec Randy Greenberg of the Greenberg Group, who negotiated the deal, will exec produce.

Carr directed “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” “Daddy Day Care” and “Dr. Doolittle 2” and recently helmed a segment of the upcoming Wessler-Farrelly brothers comedy, with Anna Faris, Chris Pratt and JB Smoove.

Rumpus Entertainment was formed last year as a partnership between Carr and Taragan.

Platinum, which has a library of more 5,000 titles, is developing “Cowboys and Aliens” with Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, DreamWorks, Universal, Imagine and Kurtzman-Orci. The banner’s in post-production on “Dylan Dog: Dead of Night” with Hyde Park and Omnilab and also is developing “Unique,” “The Witchblade,” “Atlantis Rising” and “The Weapon.”
