Stage and film actress Betty Lou Keim died Jan. 27 in Chatsworth, Calif., of lung cancer and emphysema. She was 71.

Keim played rebellious girls including Frank Sinatra’s niece in “Some Came Running” and Ginger Roger’s daughter in “Teenage Rebel.” The latter was adapted from Broadway’s “A Roomful of Roses,” in which she played the same role.

Born in 1938 in Malden, Mass., Keim made her showbiz debut in 1953 series “My Son Jeep.” She followed that up with parts in “The Philco Television Playhouse” and “The Alcoa Hour.”

In 1956 she made the leap to the bigscreen with “These Wilder Years” and “Teenage Rebel.” At the height of her career, she was under contract to both Fox and MGM.

Besides “Roses,” her other Broadway credits included “Strange Fruit”; “Crime and Punishment,” starring John Gielgud; and “Texas Li’l Darlin’.” Her last outing was 1960 NBC series “The Deputy,” with Henry Fonda.

Keim married Warren Berlinger, fellow cast member on “A Roomful of Roses” and “Teenage Rebel,” in 1960 and then left showbiz.

Besides Berlinger, survivors include four children and eight grandchildren.

The family requests donations be made in her name to the Red Cross or the Motion Picture and Television Fund.
