Universal Pictures has promoted Jeffrey Kirschenbaum to exec VP of production.

Kirschenbaum, who has been with the studio for nearly a decade, served as the production exec on U’s highest-grossing film of 2009: “Fast and Furious.” He also worked on Universal tentpoles “Wanted,” “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” and “The Bourne Ultimatum.”

In his new post, he’ll report to newly installed production prexy Debbie Liebling and will continue to shepherd such projects as “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” “Wanted 2,” “Battleship,” “47 Ronin” and the fifth installment in the “Fast and Furious” franchise.

“Jeff has been an essential component in the success of some of our big event films at Universal,” said co-chairman Donna Langley. “He brings skill and enthusiasm to everything he does, and we look forward to having his continued contributions to our creative process.”

Kirschenbaum came to U in 2001 as director of development and was promoted to VP of production in 2004. He has been senior VP of production since 2007.
