Lionsgate has rounded out the cast of “Machine Gun Preacher” with Michelle Monaghan, Madeline Carroll, Kathy Baker and Souleymane Sy Savane.
Gerard Butler’s been announced as the star of “Machine Gun Preacher” with Michael Shannon on board to portray his friend. Project’s based on the true story of Sam Childers, a once violent drug-dealing biker who went on to spend time in the most dangerous parts of Sudan and Uganda rescuing the youngest victims of war.
Marc Forster directs from a Jason Keller screenplay with shooting set to begin July 5 in Detroit and South Africa. Lionsgate said Monday it’s acquired North American distribtion rights and plans to release the film in fall 2011.
Monaghan and Carroll will portray Childer’s wife and daughter while Baker plays his mother and Savane plays Childers’ right hand in Africa.
Forster will produce under his Apparatus shingle along with Robbie Brenner; Gary Safady and Craig Chapman of Kaushi Entertainment; and Deborah Giarratana of GG Filmz. Exec producers are Butler, Myles Nestel of Merlina Entertainment, Brad Simpson of Apparatus, Alan Siegel and Louise Rosner.
