‘Potter’ nabs $14.5 million

'Tangled' takes $11.6 million at 3,603

Warner Bros.’ “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1” kick started the Thanksgiving Weekend on top, grossing an estimated $14.5 million from 4,125 locations on Wednesday.

“Hallows” easily outstripped the No. 2 mid-week performer, Disney’s 3D toon “Tangled,” with $11.6 million at 3,603.

The holiday frame typically displays a robust Wednesday start driven by kids on school vacation and adult auds getting an early start to the weekend. Thanksgiving Day grosses tend to slow down, before picking up Friday through the weekend.

“Tangled” led the weekend’s quartet of wide openers, which included Sony/Screen Gems’ “Burlesque,” 20th Century Fox’s “Love and Other Drugs” and CBS Films’ “Faster.”

“Burlesque” landed in third place, with an estimated $2.8 million from 3,037 engagements, followed by 3D toon holdover “Megamind,” from Paramount and DreamWorks Animation, which reported a take of $2.7 million from 3,411 in its fourth frame.

Meanwhile, fifth-place entry “Love and Other Drugs,” with an estimated $2.5 million at 2,366 locations, debuted ahead of Fox’s third sesh holdover “Unstoppable” at sixth place, with the studio estimating $1.9 million from 3,261 locations.

“Faster” earned $1.6 million at 2,454 locations for seventh place.
