De Niro to receive DeMille Award

Iconic actor honored at Golden Globes

It’s only logical that a year after Martin Scorsese received the Cecil B. DeMille Award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., Robert De Niro would be next in line.

The two have worked together on eight films, including 1980’s “Raging Bull,” for which De Niro won his second Oscar. Six year earlier, he won for “The Godfather Part II.”

De Niro will be feted at the Jan. 16 Golden Globes. Event is set to be broadcast by NBC, with the soiree hosted for the second year in a row by Ricky Gervais.

Before Scorsese, DeMille winners in recent years have included Steven Spielberg, Warren Beatty and Anthony Hopkins.

De Niro’s most recent bigscreen appearance was in “Stone,” in which he played a troubled parole officer. He’s also producing and will be seen in “Little Fockers,” due Dec. 22. In recent years, De Niro and his Tribeca Prods. producing partner Jane Rosenthal have been active as organizers of Gotham’s Tribeca Film Festival.
