Sony Masterworks will promote its sizable catalog of original cast albums with launch of an expansive new Website, Masterworksbroadway.com, on April 1.
Site will survey label’s tuners from “Finian’s Rainbow” (1947) through last year’s bilingual revival of “West Side Story.” Masterworks’ 400-title catalog includes such B’way landmarks as “South Pacific,” “My Fair Lady,” “Cabaret,” “Fiddler On the Roof,” “A Chorus Line,” “Nine,” “Hairspray,” and “The Producers.”
Content will include a streaming library of cast recordings; podcasts with Great White Way luminaries like Stephen Sondheim, Angela Lansbury and Bernadette Peters; hitherto unseen recording session photos, and a weekly blog by theater journalist Peter Filichia.
On day of launch, Masterworks will kick off a monthlong sweepstakes promotion, wryly titled, after a song from “Gypsy,” “You Gotta Get a Gimmick.” Giveaways will include a trip to Gotham for a night at a Broadway musical and its complete catalog of tuner CDs. A weekly prize will be related to the work of Sondheim and Jerry Herman.
