ETC honors Howard Lukk

Disney VP feted for Interoperable Master Format project

The Entertainment Technology Center at the University of Southern California awarded its first Technology Leadership Award Tuesday to Howard Lukk, vice president of Digital Production Technology at Walt Disney Studios.

Lukk was recognized for his work on the Interoperable Master Format project, an ongoing ETC project aimed at creating a single master file that can be used for all digital distribution platforms.

ETC topper David Wertheimer told Variety that though the ETC tends to get credit for many of its initiatives, many “have been led largely by individuals from within the member companies. So the board decided to it would be a great idea to start giving out an award for people who have voluntarily given their time and expertise to try to solve problems for the common benefit of multiple industry constituents.”

When nominations came up, he said, “Howard was a natural choice for the first award.”

The award was presented at the ETC Studio Technology Leaders Dinner at the Radisson Los Angeles at USC.
