Batman sets date

Warner Bros. to open pic on July 20, 2012

Though it has yet to be greenlit, Warner Bros. has set the next Batpic for July 20, 2012.

Studio disclosed Friday the opening date for “Batman 3,” the third Batman pic directed by Christopher Nolan.

The studio and Imax had jointly disclosed earlier last week that the film was one of 20 Warner projects that would be released in an Imax format before the end of 2013, but that announcement didn’t give a specific release date. The Imax announcement also revealed a December 2012 release date for the first of two “Hobbit” pics, directed by Guillermo Del Toro.

Nolan’s brother Jonathan Nolan is working on a script for the next Batman installment, based on an idea from Christopher Nolan and David Goyer.

Christopher Nolan and Goyer helped breathe new life into the franchise in 2005 by co-writing “Batman Begins,” which went on to earn $352 million worldwide. The 2008 follow-up “The Dark Knight,” co-written by the Nolans with Goyer helping develop the story, earned $1 billion.

Shanghai Film Review: 'Shyrakshy: Guardian of the Light'

The bombastic English title might sound like it describes some comic book sci-fi epic, but in “Shyrakshy: Guardian of the Light” our hero does not wear a cape but a weathered cap, and the light he guards is not an interstellar death ray but the flickering beam of a battered old movie projector. Prominent Kazakh [...]
