Two indie film biz vets are launching an email newsletter about video-on-demand offerings in an effort to boost awareness of VOD fare.

Initiative, called On Demand Weekly, aims to help VOD content combat the dearth of promotion that is often bemoaned by indie film types whose pics are most likely to include VOD as a significant component of a pic’s release.

Kicking off Wednesday, the ad-supported On Demand Weekly comes from co-founders Britt Bensen, whose resume includes stints at Sundance Channel and Miramax, and Doug Turner, who began his career at Miramax before moving into marketing for magazines Stuff and Maxim.

The lack of marketing visibility and guidance accorded VOD lineups often ratchets up the difficulty of attracting auds to content available on demand.

Newsletter will be sent out to subscribers who sign up on ODW’s related website. Editorial sked is to include weekly updates on movies and music as well as the on-demand slate offered by pay-cable channels.

E-publication targets families with children ages 13 and under — i.e., the demo that includes parents who find themselves unable to go out to the cinema as often as they used to.

On Demand Weekly kicks off with a stable of 10 scribes and includes reviews.
