Dems to Fox News: Add a Disclaimer

Nathan Daschle, the head of the Democratic Governors Assn., wants Fox News to run a disclaimer “any time any of your programs cover governors or gubernatorial races between now and Election Day.”

His request to Fox News chief Roger Ailes came after news broke yesterday that News Corp., parent company of the 24 news network, contributed $1 million in June to the Republican Governors Assn., one of the largest single contributions by a media conglom to a political org this election cycle.

Daschle wrote in a letter to Ailes, “I suggest that the disclaimer say: “News Corp., parent company of Fox News, provided $1 million to defeat Democratic governors in November.” If you do not add a disclaimer, I request that you and your staff members on the “fair and balanced” side of the network demand that the contribution be returned.”

White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton today said of the contribution, “Well, I’m sure it creates a lot of questions. I’ve seen the report, but I don’t have any particular comment on it.”

Here’s my story on the donation that ran in today’s print version of Variety.
