BARCELONA — Catalan pubcaster TVC and BBC Scotland are teaming on their first joint toon project, “Coses de Noies… i de Nois” (Ask Lara).

TVC will be the majority co-producer.

“Lara’s” partners also include Catalonia’s Tomavistas, Netherland’s Submarine and Scotland’s Red Kite.

The 26-part series candidly depicts the physical and psychological traumas of tweens. Series is targeted at 9 to 13-years-old viewers.

“We’re working on this sensitive material with a large amount of respect, spontaneity and tact, with the aid of fantastic medical and psychological consultants,” said Mercedes Marro, Tomavistas’ producer and series director.

“We wanted primarily to deliver entertainment; BBC is mainly focusing on the series’ educational elements,” TVC’s Oriol Sala-Patau told Variety.

Telescreen Distribution is handling international sales, excluding U.K.and Ireland, and French, Spanish and Portuguese-speaking territories.

“The content is unique in the way it is told and shown, and there are not many series that really connect to its difficult-to-reach target group,” Telescreen general manager Sjoerd Raemakers told Variety.

“Lara” will be ready for delivery in the fall of 2011.
