Sony Pictures Classics has picked up North American rights to Cannes alum “Life, Above All.”
Helmed by Oliver Schmitz (“Paris, je t’aime”), “Life” scored the fest’s Francois Chalais Prize for films dedicated to life affirmation and journalism.
Storyline, based on Allan Stratton’s novel “Chanda’s Secrets,” follows a young girl in a small South African township and the hardships suffered by her and her family. Movie is a Dreamer Joint Venture production in co-production with Senator Film Produktion, Enigma Pictures and Niama-Film.
Handled by world sales company Bavaria Film Intl., pic has previously sold to ARP for France, Nachshon for Israel and Senator for German-speaking Europe.
In the past SPC has released Bavaria pics including “Run Lola Run” and “The Man Without a Past.”
No North American release date for “Life, Above All” has yet been announced.
