Peter Fonda is set to appear in “Banker to the Poor” about Muhammad Yunus, who won a Nobel prize in 2006 for inventing the groundbreaking microcredit loans that empowered the poor in third world countries.

Indian thesp Irrfan Khan (“Slumdog Millionaire”) is in advanced negotiations to star as Yunus while Fonda will play an American businessman who opposes Yunus’ economic approach.

Italian helmer Marco Amenta (“The Sicilian Girl”) has structured the English-language feature as a European co-prod with Germany’s Pandora Film, Franco-Belgian producer Andre Logie and Italy’s RAI Cinema, which will release locally.

Cameras start rolling in Sri Lanka in October on “Banker,” with a script penned by Amenta with Italo scribes Sergio Donati and Massimo Gaudioso with input from Yunus.
