British pop phenomenon the Pet Shop Boys will create “The Most Incredible Thing,” a full-length dance work at Sadler’s Wells, the leading U.K. dance house, for run set for Mar. 22-26.
Choreographed and directed by Javier De Frutos, the work is based on a Hans Christian Andersen story adapted by Matthew Dunster and Pet Shop duo Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe. Story celebrates art in the face of human destruction.
With a cast of 15 (headed by Royal Ballet star Ivan Putrov) and a 26-piece orchestra, production features designs by Tony-winner Katrina Lindsay (“Les Liaisons Dangereuses”) and film and animation by Tal Rosner.
Best-known for their worldwide success with 10 albums, the duo are no strangers to theater having mounted extravagantly theatrical tours with artists including Derek Jarman and Zaha Hadid. Pair also have written a musical, “Closer to Heaven,” and performed their soundtrack to the silent “Battleship Potemkin” with the Dresden Sinfoniker orchestra.
