BERLIN — Olive Films has picked up U.S. rights Feo Aladag’s award-winning German immigrant drama “When We Leave” from Munich-based Telepool.

Distrib plans to release pic early next year. The film, which won the narrative feature award and actress kudos for star Sibel Kekilli (“Head-On”) at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, centers on a Turkish woman who flees her abusive husband in Istanbul with her young son to seek refuge in Berlin.

Telepool also sold Canadian rights to Toronto-based distributor Mongrel Media, which will likewise release the film in the first quarter of 2011.

“When We Leave” premiered at this year’s Berlin Film Festival and went on to win top prizes at the German Film Awards, including actress for Kekilli and best feature in bronze.

In related festival news, Athina Rachel Tsangari’s Greek drama “Attenberg,” which won the actress award for Ariane Labed at the Venice Film Festival, sold to EYE Film Institute Netherlands for the Benelux and to Stadtkino Wien for Austria.

Repped internationally by Cologne-based Match Factory, “Attenberg,” will have its North American premiere in Toronto.
