LONDON — Simon Hewlett has been upped to exec VP of marketing for Universal Pictures Intl.

Hewlett will oversee all marketing functions for Universal’s international theatrical releases, including creative advertising, media planning and buying, promotions and publicity.

He will report directly to UPI prexy David Kosse and will work closely with exec VP of distribution Duncan Clark on all strategic marketing ideas surrounding international theatrical releases.

Hewlett has been with Universal since 2006, when he was m.d., U.K. and Ireland, and was part of the team, including Kosse and Clark, who helped start up UPI in 2007, when it separated from United Intl. Pictures.

Prior to this, he worked at Fox in sales and marketing director positions in home entertainment and theatrical, before being upped to m.d. of U.K. theatrical operations.
