Hair joins ESPN

Exec to oversee Europe, Middle East, Africa

LONDON — Disney-owned sports web ESPN has poached a Sony topper to run its activities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

British-born Ross Hair, exec VP of international networks for Europe at Sony Pictures Television Intl., will join ESPN later this year at an unspecified date.

He succeeds Lynne Frank as m.d. for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, who earlier this year announced she was returning to the U.S. for family reasons.

Before joining Sony, Hair was director of strategic planning at ESPN Star Sports, the joint venture between Disney and News Corp. in Asia.

Hair has also worked for Nickelodeon, BSkyB and Arthur Andersen.
