Fox Star Studios and Abu Dhabi production arm Imagenation are teaming to cross-promote and distribute Bollywood thesp Shah Rukh Khan starrer “My Name Is Khan.”
Pic, which follows Khan’s character on a journey across America to win back the love of his life, tackles post-9/11 attitudes in the West toward Muslims.
Khan reunites with actress Kajol and helmer Karan Johar after a gap of several years. The trio previously worked together on Bollywood blockbusters “Kabhi khushi kabhie gham” and “Kuch kuch hota hai.”
Pic will world preem in Abu Dhabi on Feb. 10. That will be followed two days later by its European preem at the Berlin Film Festival. Fox Searchlight will release the pic in the U.S. and in various territories around the world.
It’s the first time that Fox and Imagenation have worked together.
Imagenation has a $250 million co-financing and co-production deal with Participant Media and Hyde Park Entertainment, a $100 million pact with National Geographic Films and a $10 million development deal with Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald.
