Film Movement goes retro with ‘1981’

Company nabs coming-of-age comedy

Film Movement has acquired coming-of-age comedy “1981” for a limited theatrical run this summer along with video-on-demand release.

The French language film, from Canadian director Ricardo Trogi, centers on an 11-year-old who, struggling with his family’s move and a new school, decides to become a liar to impress his classmates who are all from wealthier backgrounds.

Pic has been an official selection at the Palm Springs Film Fest, Montreal World Film Festival, Santa Barbara Film Fest and the Rome Film Fest.
