BERLIN — Co-productions between European and Canadian producers are getting a boost with a new initiative being introduced at the Toronto Film Festival this year.
The Producers Lab Toronto, which runs Sept. 10-12, is aimed at facilitating and increasing international co-productions between Europe and Canada.
The three-day event will include pitching sessions, round-table meetings and case studies, allowing European and Canadian producers to meet and discuss co-production opportunities.
Created by European Film Promotion in collaboration with the Ontario Media Development Cooperation and the Toronto Film Festival, and backed by the European Union’s new MEDIA International Programme, the Lab will host 24 producers from Europe and Canada.
The 12 European participants will include people who have recently participated in the EFP’s Producers on the Move promotional platform in Cannes. The OMDC and the festival will choose the other 12 Canadian producers.
Organizers, who will announce the group of 24 invited producers in July, are looking for participants with established track records in project development and production and with experience in international co-production.
The Toronto Film Festival runs Sept. 9-19.
