MADRID — Leading Spanish paybox Canal Plus Spain has taken exclusive rights to AMC’s new conspiracy drama “Rubicon.”
Premiered Aug. 1 Stateside, “Rubicon” gave AMC its biggest audience ever for the launch of a scripted original.
The James Badge Dale starrer will air in Spain via Canal Plus Accion from Sept. 5.
“Rubicon” was sold by Warner Bros. Intl. Television.
Canal Plus Spain has also inked with HBO for rights to urban comedy “How to Make It in America” and a package of Emmy-nommed telepics.
The HBO deal includes Peter Morgan’s “The Special Relationship,”
toplining Dennis Quaid and Michael Sheen, which Canal Plus preems Sept. 2.
Telefilms “You Don’t Know Jack,” with Al Pacino playing Dr. Kevorkian, and the Claire Danes starring biopic “Temple Grandin” will air on CP from November and December, respectively.
Also, CP will air from Sept. 3 Adam Reed’s spy toon skein “Archer,”
which it has acquired from Reveille.
CP is the jewel of the crown at Prisa-owned Spanish satellite service Digital Plus. By the end of August, the paybox will expand in Spain, after Prisa inked early this month with IPTV nationwide operator Orange TV to offer CP over Orange’s own in-house distribution system.
