‘Umbrellas’ to hit West End
Legit company Kneehigh will bring its previously announced stage version of movie tuner “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg” to the West End in March, following its February tryout at regional house the Curve in Leicester.
Helmed by a.d. Emma Rice, adaptation stars Joanna Riding, international cabaret performer Meow Meow and U.S. thesp Andrew Durand, making his U.K. debut.
Legrand’s score features new English lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. Produced by Daniel Sparrow and Mike Walsh Prods., Curve Leicester and City Lights Intl., in association with Be Yu Prods., the production begins previews at the Gielgud on March 5 ahead of a March 22 opening.
Vicente Canales’ sales company Film Factory Entertainment is building its first movie slate, picking up international distrib rights to Daniel Sanchez Arevalo’s comedy “Primos” (Cousinhood). Film Factory will debut pic internationally at February’s European Film Market in Berlin.
Sanchez Arevalo described pic as a story that turns on “three rather goofy cousins coming back to the village where as adolescents they spent their summer vacation.” Warner Bros. will release pic in Spain on Feb. 4.
