Wolfe Releasing has reeled in all North American rights to Colombian-Peruvian co-production “Undertow” (Contracorriente) at Sundance.
Vying for the World Cinema Narrative Competition prize, debut pic by Peruvian helmer/scribe Javier Fuentes-Leon is a love story set in a Peruvian seaside where a married fisherman struggles to come to terms with having a male lover.
Wolfe bought pic for low six figures from Shoreline Entertainment which acquired worldwide sales rights to pic just before Sundance.
“We are confident that all audiences will love this haunting and beautifully crafted film of the concurrence of forbidden love within the traditions of a small town,” said Wolfe prexy Maria Lynn. Lynn and CEO Kathy Wolfe closed the deal two days after the pic’s debut screening in Park City.
Sam Eigen of Shoreline Entertainment, Steven Beer of Greenberg Traurig and producers Fuentes-Leon, Rodrigo Guerrero Rojas, Andres Calderon and Cristian Conti from Colombia’s Dynamo negotiated on behalf of the pic.
