Warner Bros.’ U.K.-based international TV production arm is partnering with John de Mol’s Talpa Media to sell, adapt and produce entertainment formats owned by Talpa.
Warner Bros. Intl. Television Production has secured exclusive U.K. rights to all Talpa formats.
WBITVP head and exec VP Ronald Goes said, “Teaming up with a company so established in global formats underlines our commitment to build and expand our international television production business.”
Goes is a former Talpa topper appointed by Warner Bros. last year to beef up international TV production. Deal is in line with WBITVP’s ambitions to establish production units in major global territories and create local versions of its own shows plus third-party shows.
Deal follows an agreement by Warner Horizon Television, the U.S.-based cable series production arm of Warner Bros. Television Group, and Talpa in February. Talpa’s formats include “The Golden Cage,” “Dating in the Dark,” “Viper’s Nest,” “Pretty Smart,” “M/F,” “Guesstimation,” “I Love My Country,” “Divided” and “Know Your Nation.”
Andrew Zein, senior VP of creative, format development sales for WBITVP, will oversee the new alliance. Zein is the former m.d. of U.K. shingle Tiger Aspect, who joined WBITVP earlier this year.
Talpa has deals with local partners in the U.S., France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden. In May the firm acquired a minority stake in Russian shingle Mir Reality.
