German broadcaster RTL Television has inked a wide-ranging output deal with Gaul’s Studio-Canal.

The agreement, which goes into effect in January, covers all of StudioCanal’s international productions and will include Paul Haggis’ “The Next Three Days” with Russell Crowe; helmer Ben Stassen’s 3D animated feature “Sammy’s Adventures: The Secret Passage”; and the upcoming remakes of “Escape From New York” and “Cliffhanger.”

Dirk Schweitzer, exec VP of program acquisitions and sales at RTL Television, said, “Studio-Canal’s strategy to develop and finance international studio-level movie slates out of Europe is a unique approach that gives RTL access to highly competitive films besides the major studio output deals.”

StudioCanal chairman and CEO Olivier Courson described the RTL pact as a “great opportunity,” saying “the right TV distribution will further solidify Studio-Canal’s existing relationships in the marketplace.”
