Canuck TV producer Shaftesbury Films is launching Shaftesbury Factual to focus on non-fiction programming.
The division, unveiled Wednesday, will be run by exec producer Rachel Low as veep of factual entertainment.
She will be in charge of development and production, reporting to Shaftesbury CEO Christina Jennings.
“The move into factual production is the next strategic step for us to further diversify our business and development slate,” said Jennings. “Rachel is an accomplished, highly talented producer with a proven track record developing hit factual properties.”
Development is already underway on a number of projects, but Jennings did not reveal details.
Low was president of Red Apple Entertainment, which was bought by Frantic Films in 2008. At Frantic she was executive producer and development consultant.
Projects that Low has developed and exec produced include “Pitchin’ In,” which airs on Food Network Canada; “The Opener,” a one-hour series for Food Network Canada; and the series “Masterminds.”
Low will be based in Shaftesbury’s Toronto headquarters.
Shaftesbury produces the series “Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures,” which airs on HBO Canada; “The Listener,” which airs on CTV in Canada and Fox Intl. Channels; “Murdoch Mysteries”; and “Life With Derek,” which is broadcast in over 100 countries.
