Minkoff finds ‘Chinese Odyssey’ scribe

James V. Hart to pen English-language pic

Rob Minkoff’s 3D action-adventure “Chinese Odyssey” is pushing forward, with James V. Hart (“Hook,” “Contact”) attached to pen the script for the English-language pic.

Minkoff (“The Lion King,” “The Forbidden Kingdom”) will begin lensing the film early next year. “Chinese Odyssey” will primarily be shot in China, where much of the financing is coming from. (Daily Variety, May 3)

Minkoff and Pietro Ventani are producing “Chinese Odyssey” through their new shingle Tiger 62 Media, in partnership with the China Film Group and Beijing Galloping Horse Film & TV. Tiger 62 has offices in L.A., Singapore and Beijing.

“Rob comes with a killer pedigree — with unparalleled experience in animation, character design, and creating fantastic worlds which global audiences have flocked to see. To be able to work with him to fashion one of the great original Chinese legends into a grand adventure for the Western audience is a rare opportunity in today’s changing film industry and I am thrilled to be part of this project,” Hart said.

Hart is currently in production with his first animated feature, “The Legend of the Leafman.” Hart is repped by CAA.
