The Japan Contents Festival (Cofesta), an umbrella org for Japanese contents events, unveiled a slimmer roster for its fourth edition, skedded to start on Sept. 16.
Cofesta will coordinate 13 events, starting with the Tokyo Game Show, down from 18 last year. The aim of the cuts is to create fewer, bigger events that are more attractive to foreign buyers and dealmakers.
The Tokyo Contents Market and the Licensing Asia event will be combined in the new Creative Market Tokyo.
Cofesta has dropped the Japan Anime Collaboration Market, a mart for the ancillary uses of toons, and the Akiihabara Entamatsuri, a fan event held in Tokyo’s pop sub-culture Mecca of Akiihabara for toons, comics, games and novels. Their functions will be combined with other events.
The big climax of Cofesta is the Tokyo Film Festival, which will unspool Oct. 23-31, and the Tiffcom pic mart, which is skedded for Oct. 25-28.
