Indian Film Festival LA unveils slate

Event will unspool 33 films from five countries

Five countries will be repped at the Indian Film Festival Los Angeles with 33 films including the world preem of docu “Woman Rebel” from Kiran Deol.

Features include India’s entry for the foreign lingo Oscar “Harischandrachi Factory” and “Vihir,” as well as docs “At My Doorstep,” “Nero’s Guests” and “Babies Made in India.”

The popular Bollywood by Night section returns with “Kaminey,” “3 Idiots” and the 20th anni edition of “Raakh Redux.”

Fest will also feature films that preemed at other events such as Dev Benegal’s “Road, Movie” and Laxmikant Shetgaonkar’s “The Man Beyond the Bridge.”

As previously announced “Cooking With Stella,” produced by Deepa Mehta and helmed by her brother Dilip, will kick off the fest on April 20. It will close April 25 with Aussie pic “The Waiting City” directed by Claire McCarthy and starring Radha Mitchell, Joel Edgerton and Samrat Chakrabarti.

The eighth edition of the fest will unspool at the ArcLight Hollywood.

Kranti Kanade, winner of the IFFLA Film Fund’s development grant, will stage a reading of his script at 11 a.m. April 25 at the ArcLight.
