IFC Films is launching new genre label IFC Midnight to showcase international genre cinema, with four new titles premiering on VOD each month. Some of those will simultaneously open in theaters.
IFC toppers made the announcement on the eve of the Cannes Film Festival, where they will be acquiring titles for the new division. Types of films they will look for include horror, sci-fi thrillers, erotic arthouse, action and more.
In addition, a branded line of Blu-Ray and DVD product will be released via a distribution agreement with MPI Media Group.
“Many of our most successful VOD titles are those that might fall under the Midnight label — not just films that are straight up horror, erotic arthouse or genre films but also ones that shock audiences, push boundaries and stir up controversy — so officially creating IFC Midnight was the logical next step. While we as a company continue to focus on a diverse range of films, this is one particular area which we are going to heavily brand and promote,” IFC Entertainment prexy Jonathan Sehring said.
Titles that will play or premiere under the IFC Midnight label in the next few months include: Tom Six’s horror pic “The Human Centipede;” Daniel Monzon’s prison drama “Cell 211;” Jake West’s British horror-comedy “Doghouse;” Marina de Van psychological thriller “Don’t Look Back;” Nicolas Winding Refn’s “Valhalla Rising;” Stuart Hazeldine’s thriller “Exam;” Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher’s “The Horde;” Johnnie To’s “Vengeance;” and Gaspar Noe’s “Enter the Void.”
