Forest Whitaker is in talks to star in indie drama “Little Treasure,” due to be filmed on location in Shanghai and centered on an American couple who returns to the wife’s homeland of China.

Project’s due to start shooting next month, with financing from Belltower Entertainment and Amalgamation Entertainment. Michael D. Olmos (“Splinter”) is attached to direct.

Script focuses on the couple dealing with prejudices, humor, cultural differences and self-discovery while meeting a Shanghai street kid who changes their lives. The screenplay was penned by writer Josh Goldstein (Disney’s “Jungle Cruise,” “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Jamie Foxx Show”).

Whitaker’s appearing in Fox Searchlight’s “Our Family Wedding” and the upcoming “Repo Men.”
