Bille August has been tapped to helm Karen Blixen biopic “Tanne.”
The $10 million-to-$12 million-budget production will cover the Danish author’s life up until her move to Africa in 1914 when she was 30, a journey that was depicted on the bigscreen in helmer Sydney Pollack’s “Out of Africa.”
Pic is produced by Regner Grasten for Regner Grasten Film from a script by Peter Asmussen, who co-wrote “Breaking the Waves” with Lars von Trier.
Cast has yet to be announced.
“Tanne” is going into preproduction in June with lensing due to start early next year.
This will be August’s first Danish-lingo pic since “Pelle the Conqueror,” which won Cannes’ Palme d’Or in 1988 and the Oscar for foreign film in 1989.
August last feature was “Goodbye Bafanas” in 2007.
